90 minutes west of Tokyo. Hakone is the largest plateau resort-type tourist destination in eastern Japan. Hakone Shrine was founded 1300 years ago, and many Samurai commanders worshiped it. The daimyo lords during the Edo period passed accross Hakone mountains to the way of Edo Castle, and many Westerners have been loving this place as a summer resort.
